Fundar has
been playing a crucial role in the area of budget work
at national and international level. In Mexico, Fundar
works continuously with a wide array of CSO’s
regarding transparency, accountability, monitoring
and analysis of public budgets. The organization also
keeps a fluid relationship with Congress and public
officials of specific programs/sectors. The research
and dissemination documents produced by the group have
been successfully fed into the budget negotiation and
approval, the revision of the public account and other
relevant moments.
At the international level, Fundar has coordinated important
initiatives to strengthen civil society’s budget
work. In 2003, the organization coordinated the Latin
American Budget Transparency Index, composed of three
different studies in ten countries from the region. During
2004, Fundar headed two regional studies regarding HIV/AIDS:
one, focusing on prevention of the disease among adolescents,
and another, analyzing the allocation of public funds
to prevention and treatment of HIV.
