JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Director is responsible for directing, planning and supervising the strategies and operations of the organization in order to obtain results that bolster its sustainability and public profile, in accordance with the organization's mission.
Academic:
• Academic training and/or comparable practical experience in subjects related to Fundar's work. (Human Rights, Democracy and Citizenship, Political Party System, Transparency, etc.)
• Knowledge of management and institutional development of civil society organizations, public or private institutions
• Research experience
• Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish
Work Experience:
• Familiarity with the Mexican political system and civil society sector as well as with Fundar's main activities: budget analysis, transparency and access to information, congressional relations, public policy advocacy, strategic litigation, media coverage, etc.
• Administrative and financial experience
• Experience with human resource management and leading multidisciplinary teams
• Track record of relationships with agencies, foundations and other donor organizations at the national and international levels
• Relations with Mexican academic, political and civil society leaders
Preference will be given for:
• Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience
• Previous work experience in a leadership position
• Experience in applied research
• Political neutrality (no political partisanship)
• Demonstrated commitment to democracy and social justice
• Experience in media relations
• Publications
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Leadership, excellent communication and negotiation skills, analytical skills, proactive, ability to problem-solve, strong vision, strategic thinking guided by specific goals, management skills.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Planning and strategic development of the organization in the short, medium and long-term, assuring periodic evaluation and strategic institutional planning.
• Establishing the general objectives of the organization, in accordance with the guidelines of the board.
• Organizing and structuring the organization in a manner that allows it to fulfill its general objectives.
• Directing and coordinating the different working areas of the organization, assuring their integration and performance within the organization, as well as defining necessary internal policies for the adequate operation of the organization.
• Representing Fundar vis-à-vis its national and international counterparts, engagement with high-level political, governmental and civil society leadership.
• Maintaining close relationships with Fundar's donor agencies.
• Being informed at all times about the financial status of all of Fundar programs.
• Making decisions that may have political implications, these decisions will be taken together with the team and if necessary with advice of the board.
• Principal media spokesperson of Fundar
• Legal representation of Fundar
• Close communication with the president of the board and its members to inform them about any relevant issue involving the organization and its activities and to consult them on significant decisions.
• Assuring the viability of the organization as a whole and of each program in which Fundar is participating, assuring the fulfillment of the organization's obligations, its operational costs and an appropriate compensation of its employees.
The Executive Director will report directly to the president of the board: Blanca Rico Galindo.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
