INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOPS ON BUDGET ANALYSIS

Fundar is a pioneer organization, in the international vanguard of using budget analysis as a tool to promote transparency and accountability. One of its main goals is to accomplish a change in priorities of public expenditure in order to reduce the marginal condition that millions of Mexicans suffer.

For this purpose, we designed our own methodology that uses official information as the main tool to influence decision makers from the Federal Executive and Legislative powers, for re-orienting expenses in health, poverty elimination, education and gender, among other issues.

Derived from the experience at the national level, restlessness and commitment to share this knowledge around the world arouse, so the organizations interested in strengthening their analytical and influential capacities on their own governments can use it.

This is how two strategic alliances with the International Budget Project (IBP) and the International Human Rights Internship Program were signed, in order to give training courses on budget analysis.

In 2007, Fundar offered the intermediate workshop “Analysis and Influence on Budgets” at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from March 12th to the 23rd. Organizations from East Africa, Amsterdam, Bolivia, Bangladesh and India took it.

From April 9th to April 18th, a workshop focused on incorporating budget analysis to human rights work took place in Monrovia, Liberia.

Furthermore, from June 18th to the 22nd, the workshop on monitoring and follow up on health budget, and specifically the funds for HIV/AIDS, was held in Kampala, Uganda, oriented towards specialized institutions on East African issues.

Two workshops on Budget Analysis and Political Influence will soon be given in Cambodia and Nicaragua.

In Mexico, Fundar has a continuous training program for civil society organizations, in which more than 30 groups have been trained. In May 2007, the 3rd Workshop took place in Cuernavaca, Morels and the next one is scheduled for the end of this October.
