RIGHT TO KNOW, BALANCE AND CIVIL PERSPECTIVES
COORDINATED BY JONATHAN FOX, LIBBY HAIGHT,
HELENA HOFBAUER AND TANIA SÁNCHEZ

The unfinished transition process left as a legacy to society the Transparency and Access to Public Governmental Information Law. Right to know is an exhaustive tour with some of the most qualified specialists in Mexico to talk about the mazes of transparency and how the right to information is exercised for real, in scenarios such as the electoral processes, the political representative institutions, justice-making and rights, economic, social and environmental policies, as well as the information access in states and municipalities.

The multidisciplinary approximation of this book, coordinated by Jonathan Fox, Libby Haight, Helena Hofbauer and Tania Sanchez, offers the reader a very complete overview about the situation of transparency in our country. If Mexico is to be understood by its achievements and restrictions in the matter, Right to know is undoubtedly a mandatory reference.

MATERNAL DEATH AND POPULAR INSURANCE
COORDINATED BY DANIELA DÍAZ ECHEVERRÍA
MARTHA AÍDA CASTAÑEDA PÉREZ, DAVID MELÉNDEZ NAVARRO
AND SERGIO MENESES NAVARRO

This publication shows the findings of research done during 2006 in Chiapas, Guerrero and Oaxaca, regarding the application of resources and implementation of the Health Social Protection System on maternal health.

This phenomenon (associated with the double inequity that women suffer because of their gender condition and because of their economic condition) is perfectly avoidable in most of the cases with an adequate attention of the health institutions.

Nevertheless, the application of the Popular Insurance in three of the states with more health backwardness in the country doesn’t seem to satisfy the demands and even the official expectations on the public health topic of urgent resolution.

The merit of the research is that it focuses on one of the most serious problems that we face as a nation.
