From December 1st to the 6th, 2007, Fundar collaborated with the General Direction of Public Security and Transit of the Honorable Municipality of Naucalpan de Juarez by giving the Course on Proximity Police to 40 policemen of the corporation.

The course has the goal of giving the agents the essential tools of a democratic and citizen police model, the principles which motivate it, the instruments, abilities and the knowledge needed in order for the corporations to have the possibility of developing strategies for interacting with citizens and fulfilling efficiently their security expectations.

The topics developed are: ethics and police mission, models of crime prevention, strategies of recuperation of public spaces, theory of the Model of Proximity police, strategies and tactics for applying the model of proximity, human rights, gender perspectives, non-violent resolution of conflicts and compared experiences of the model.

The active participation of Fundar in the described activity is important, since it allows to propose democratic models of police performance to the security agents and to identify areas of opportunities for incidence in the local work of citizen security. Fundar works to motivate the police reform from a local level.

The contact with civil society, initiated by the Municipality of Naucalpan is a very valuable effort for promoting the exchange of perceptions and realities on the issue of public and citizen security in Mexico.
